Resource One Credit Union Hosted a Reality Fair at Eastfield College

Resource One Credit Union hosted a Reality Fair at Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX to help students understand budgeting and financial choices.

DALLAS, TX (November 10, 2017)

As part of Resource One Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to offer financial education, they partnered with Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX on October 26, 2017, to provide a Reality Fair during the college’s Tech Expo event.

During the Reality Fair, students are required to make financial decisions by budgeting and spending on their terms in a simulated real-world setting. Through creating personal budgets and allocating dollars for food, clothing, housing, utilities, transportation expenses, and more, students can begin to shape intelligent thought processes and develop a sound appreciation for money that can be built on in future years.

The Reality Fair at Eastfield College was the largest to date requiring additional volunteers. In the spirit of cooperation, several credit unions and community volunteers stepped up and answered the call including:

  • Eastfield College
  • Resource One Credit Union
  • Advancial Credit Union
  • Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union
  • Southwest Financial Federal Credit Union
  • Cornerstone Credit Union League
  • Credit Union Resources, Inc.
  • Skillful Living Center, Inc.
  • Trophy Nissan
  • Liberty Mutual Insurance
  • Majestic Money Management

“By our final count, we were able to educate 677 youth and adults on how their decisions impact their financial well-being. The event was a great example of community cooperation and credit union cooperation – people helping people,” stated Phillip Crocker, Director of Cultural Enhancement at Resource One Credit Union.
